❤ this! Because the messes in our lives aren’t only physical or with things… that we purchased. They’re also in the money we spent on all that, or maintaining it. Yeesh!
With grocery costs essentially doubling in the last 5 years… let alone the rise in health insurance costs… we will be lucky to survive 2026 without selling our farm. Not even joking. 🙃

Vacations?!?! We gave those up a decade ago already. Only went on 1. Before our next 3 kids came along. All we had was our oldest. It was so fun! I wish we could take the other kids now that they’re at fun ages, but pulling up for longer term survival that this month or this year is plenty of challenge for now.

I used to use cold water to wash my clothes, I ended up switching to warm because I was having issues with laundry odor. The only thing I changed was the temperature of the water. Not hot, just warm, and it made such a difference with my enzyme laundry cleaner. Turned out with cold water, I was WASTING my detergent! And I have a lot of skin allergies, so find a dye-free, odor-free enzyme cleaner that would work on my disgusting POTS sweat and not turn my skin into Steven-Johnson Syndrome was critical!

When our 4 children were young and we needed a 6 person vehicle we bought second hand (2 yrs. old) Crown Victoria cars. Nobody wanted them. Everybody wanted a van for families. We saved thousands of dollars and they were really sturdy cars (the police used to use that kind of car) and they had a nice smooth ride. When the kids were grown, I did treat myself to a new Hyundai Elantra. It's still going strong at 12 years. Our credit cards are cash back ones so we not only don't pay interest because we always pay the full amount, but the bank pays us money. It ends up being about $800/year for two cards. Not bad.

I really benefited a lot from the methods shared in this video! The tips about organizing shopping lists and looking for discounts were especially helpful. I’m definitely going to try using these ideas in my next shopping trip. Also, I’ve heard that PromoPro UK is a great resource for finding extra deals and coupons, so I plan to check it out too. Saving money while shopping is always important, and videos like this make it easier to do. Thanks for sharing such useful advice

A 7 day no buy challenge is simply not do-able. If you're a busy person with no time to shop, it makes more sense to order stuff if it skipped my mind on a sunday when I was off work. That happens, you forget certain essential things or don't realise you're out and need to restock. Also, things happen. You get sick, or have a migraine or cut yourself and need to buy something from the pharmacy etc. This is a challenge for stay at home people who have plenty of time to plan and do inventory etc. Not for a full-time worker.

Funny story, I took my daughters and niece to a gen admission concert with multiple acts. We worked our way up to the front over the course of the day so that the girls could see when the headliner came on. Then people started pushing to try to get in front of my girls and I literally said we're not moving 😂

Except specific situations, our clothes are nowhere near as dirty as we think AND washing them less means they last longer and need to be replaced less often.

I haaven't had a credit card in 10 years and I don't miss it. I have more money in my account and I'm proud of myselft for being frugal too! I still get a lil urge to splurge on myself but I won't pay full price for anything. I budget my money and set goals too. It works wonders!!

When I lost my job last year, I learned that most utility companies have financial hardship programs that you can apply for. It’s not usually a huge discount, but if you’re struggling financially every little bit helps. The electricity company only took about 10% off the bill, but my water bill was reduced by 2/3rds.

I was recently inspired by a Wheezy Waiter video where he talked about gamifying savings. I’ve started doing a thing where every few days I look at my account balances and transfer any “loose change” (amounts under $1) to savings. It’s not much, but over time it will add up. Same too with any amount that was budgeted for a bill but was left over. As you say, it’s more of a mindset shift; now instead of looking for money in my budget to spend, I am looking for money to squirrel away.

I love this video. I'm born and raised in the US. My girlfriend is totally no-confrontation. I'm 180° opposite in that respect. Props to you for standing your ground during that concert fiasco. Gotta say that aversion to confrontation is some of the most Canadian stuff I've ever seen–being a US native, believe me this is a good thing. Given our current climate here in the States, I think we can all give others a bit more grace at times. It's also good to know when to be the walker and not the doormat.

Thanks for the tips! I just got paid today and as soon as you said to pay yourself first…I just logged into my bank account and moved 10% of my pay to my savings and will continue to do so! Thanks! I always wash everything in cold water, but by hand as I don’t have a washer or dryer… and I hang everything to dry. I wear pajamas several times, I wear tops twice and I wear pants 5 times. I just go to work and sit at a desk all day, so my clothes aren’t really getting dirty. 😊

Yall get this. No washing machine no dryer. Dont wanna pay the laundromat. I just bought a bucket. Fill it with water, rinse first to get rid of diry. Second with soap. Third with soap again. Dry in the sun. Sometimes i take things that i need a lot like socks or underwear or workout clothes in the shower with me. I grew up with a washing and drying machine and picked up doing this while traveling and never stopped. Never paid a laundromat in my life.

Does anyone have a HYSA that they are happy with? I joined ALLY a few years ago when they were at 4.50% interest; now they are down to 3.50%. I've been searching for, not a new one but a separate one, and haven't found one that I really like.
